I'll be up front and honest, this should have happened a long time ago! I haven't been catching the numbers of smallmouth I used to on the river. A catch and release only season (or more) may help put the smallmouth back into their prime, but I don't think it will be enough.

I wouldn't mind seeing the Juniata C&R section pushed as far as the Granville area. The fishing has become very slow from Lewistown to Granville and something needs to be done about this area too. Once you get above Granville, the smallmouth seem to be thriving. This area is very sparse in population and easily accessed fishing areas and it shows in the numbers of healthy fish.

I'm writing this in a tangent and my ideas are all over the place. Here is what I would like to see happen with this:

- C&R section on the Juniata pushed to at least the Granville access area.
- A closed smallmouth season during spawn (there are enough species in the rivers to keep you busy).
- Big Bass Program covering more of the Juniata River, AFTER the C&R program is lifted.

Will all of this happen, probably not, but at least this C&R program is a step in the right direction. I'd like to hear your comments on this matter, so please post your thoughts!

If you haven't been following the FLW College tournaments you missed the big win by the PSU Team at lake Erie! Seth Baker and Jeremy Lake took the win on Lake Erie with a total weight of 8 lbs. 12 oz. This win gave them $10,000 ($5,000 for the University and $5,000 for their Bass Club) and shot at fishing in the Northern Division Regional Championship. A win at that level could bring them in $25,000 and a brand new Ranger 177TR wrapped in PSU Blue and White!

Congratulations guys and good luck at the Regional Championship. We will be following your progress closely!

Kayak Fish Pa is getting a lot of attention here lately :) but for good reason! Juan is giving away a FREE guided kayaking trip. All he asks in return is that the winner provide a donation to "Heroes On The Water". Details can be seen on KayakBassFishing.com or simply click HERE to go directly to the thread.

To bring you even more information, we have launched the Fishing In Pa Water's Forum. This forum is for posting reports, stories and photos about all the water's you fish in Pa! We need your help to make this a great resource for people so please post as much information as you can. We hope having everyone submit reports about a body of water will give angler's a better perspective on fishing. Once a thread is created regarding a body of water, please continue posting in that thread. Also, those big long list's of water will link back to that thread (giving that list a little more value). Be sure to read the rules and have fun! If you want to see anything added to the forums, feel free to PM or email me!

This has to be one of the greatest ideas I have ever seen! The one thing I hated about getting into tournament fishing in this area was all the clubs and fees I had to get involved with. BountyFishing.com is just the answer for this! All you have to do is register, pay for your week or day, and go fish! Just about every species of fish is eligible, so go check out their site:

http://www.bountyfishing.com/

There is a free tournament the week of June 28th, so use that week to try out the service (It's a Smallmouth and Largemouth Tournament. I KNOW someone from PA can win the Smallie tournament, we have some real monsters in this area).

Good luck!

This Sunday is one of the two days when you can fish for free in Pa. This is a great opportunity to take someone fishing or for you out of state people to try your hand at fishing in Pa. Make it a point to try and get someone out who has never fished! You may get someone 'hooked' on fishing...(ok, that was a lame joke).
